stuff

Soooo much going on! Got some paint for the dining room (finally! Can't wait to cover this oppressive chalkboard green with a lovely taupe), was sick two weeks ago but got better just in time to take a trip south of the Okie border to visit some childhood friends, one of whom I haven't seen in almost 2 decades. Also had the added treat of getting to visit with another childhood friend (who wasn't able to make the meetup) on our way back home. I love those girls!!

Prior to the trip, guess who washed her husband's new iPhone in the laundry! I'd like to be able to tell you that his throwing it in a bowl of uncooked rice overnight (and at one point even baking it in the oven in said bowl of rice) fixed things, but in the end, the battery just wouldn't hold a charge. It was fried! However, if you can believe it, a trip to the Apple Store and a confession of what transpired got him a brand new phone at no charge!!! Whew.

Threw my lower back out the following Tuesday - I'll save you the cautionary tale about my poor body mechanics, but let me just say that I have never felt so scared by pain before - I mean, at least with childbirth you know that it's supposed to hurt a lot! So you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I am to feel almost 100% today, thank God! (And you can probably imagine the state of my house by now, having either been gone or under the weather for two weeks...)

Trying to get some things in order for LO's first day of preschool in September! I can hardly believe it. Even though it's just one day a week right now (with the option to make it two days), I'm a little nervous because it's a full day. My preference would be 2 half-days a week. I worry about their mandatory noon-ish naptime since he rarely takes naps anymore, and really, the naps he does occasionally take are late afternoon when he passes out on the sofa, despite my best efforts to keep him awake! And we certainly have never implemented a scheduled wake-up, so this should be very interesting. And potty breaks... oh, man, do these people have a challenge on their hands. He's pretty much potty-trained, and yet. It's very difficult to get him to go somewhere else besides home. And really, just thinking about how great and yet how crummy it has been going just wears me out, so we'll leave it at that. ANYway. I really am anxious to see how well my little stickler adapts to this new change in his routine.

And oh my gosh, I am the worst wife ever for thinking that today was the 15th instead of yesterday... because August 15th is my husband's birthday! I overheard him tell our son yesterday AFTERNOON (as in, half the day was gone before this was brought to my attention!!) that it was his birthday, and I'm all, "Nuh-UH, it's tomorrow, whatever." ARGH! :-( AND my saying "NO WAY!" led LO to also keep telling his dad that no, it's not your birthday today! To make matters even worse (if that could be possible), the poor guy thought I was bluffing when I didn't wish him a happy birthday, thinking I might have something special planned. How horrible!!!!! I love you, honey!!!! I will make it up to you soon!!!!

Finally, I have to give my sister-in-law a super-huge-thank-you-shout-out... I had posted yesterday about a giveaway for a camera tote I'd had my eye on for MONTHS... well, guess whose sister-in-law won it, and guess who she's giving it to??? Turns out, she decided to enter the giveaway just to give me more chances to win. How awesome is that??? Thank you, K!!!!!

(PS - Sorry for all the superfluous punctuation. :-/ It's just been that kind of a month thus far.)
